Social Etiquette: Using Pouches Respectfully in Vietnam
Vinapouches GlobalΒ·

Vietnamese culture places a high value on "keeping face" and politeness. While pouches are discrete, there is still a protocol to follow.
At the Dinner Table (Nhau)
It's common to smoke and drink at "Quan Nhau". Using a pouch is fine, but:
- Don't fiddle with your mouth: Put it in quickly and leave it. digging around in your gums looks gross while others are eating.
- Disposal: Never put a used pouch on the plate or in an empty beer glass. It's disrespectful to the staff. Put it in your can's catch lid.
In Temples / Pagodas
Vietnam is spiritual. While not explicitly banned, it's respectful to be "clean" when entering a temple. Remove your pouch before entering meaningful spiritual sites.
